Signature kitchens as eyecatcher in your interior
Our kitchen designers are a barrel full of inspiration. But we've also been entering into high-profile collaborations with top international designers for 20 years. The result is unique limited edition kitchens that defy the boundaries of imagination, technical and ergonomic conventions. Famous designers and architects such as John Pawson, Joseph Dirand, Bruno Moinard, Glenn Sestig, Vincent Van Duysen, Sergio Herman and Grégoire De Lafforest all brought out their personal interpretation of the kitchen concept under the flag of Obumex.
THE ALL-NEW SIGNATURE KITCHEN BY NICOLAS SCHUYBROEK
Nicolas Schuybroek is one of Belgium’s top young architects with a rapidly growing international oeuvre and reputation. In this exclusive collaboration with Obumex, he designed a highly unique Signature Kitchen. The entire concept emanates a sense of serenity but feels extremely warm and authentic at the same time.
As a starting point for his kitchen design, Nicolas Schuybroek rethought the block-like typology of a kitchen island and transformed it into a more dynamic factor, based on “the golden ratio”. The result is a carefully studied stacking of sculptural block elements, with interesting shifts between them. The design is also conceived in such a way that from each side, a different interesting view can be observed. In fact, the kitchen has four different ‘faces’, depending on the viewer’s perspective. This atypical approach grants the design concept a sense of timelessness and added "value". Compared to a traditional kitchen island, it can be conceived more as a functional sculpture and less as a kitchen.
SIGNATURE KITCHEN AS A MEETING PLACE BY JOHN PAWSON
Where the minimalist Pawson kitchen revolutionised in 1996, it remains an absolute success today. It inspired Obumex and John Pawson to work together again. The result is an exclusive kitchen whose design builds on the refined, minimalist architectural style of the first signature kitchen, with of course some new elements. In the new design, Pawson continues the idea that an exclusive design kitchen is composed of a series of parts that are more like fully-fledged furniture than conventional kitchen components. On the one hand, they are functional, but on the other, they aim to create an atmospheric living space where cooking, eating and entertaining go hand in hand. This warm, homely feeling - in a signature kitchen as a 'piece of heaven' - together with timeless elegance, discreet luxury and comfort, is one of the starting points in the design of every Obumex luxe kitchen.
SIGNATURE KITCHEN BY ARCHITECT JOSEPH DIRAND
For Obumex, the kitchen project of Joseph Dirand is the result of a long lasting cooperation. Obumex and the French architect developed a custom-made kitchen in which esthetical and functional principles are delicately lined out. The Joseph Dirand kitchen is a style icon of which Obumex realizes a unique, limited and therefore exclusive series. The concept has itself integrated very well and at the same time testifies of a fresh vision.
SIGNATURE KITCHEN BY GLENN SESTIG
A Cosmopolitan Kitchen as a Contemporary Sculpture
For Glenn Sestig the kitchen is the place to welcome friends. This was the basis of his design for Obumex. His kitchen concept is one big aesthetical bar table that immediately catches the eye by its verticality.
‘Most contemporary kitchen designs are dominated by horizontal lines. We break through this cliché with a vertical volume, a strong architectural statement. A fully-equipped cocktail cabinet is hidden here,’ says architect Glenn Sestig. ‘My sculptural kitchen design creates a visual division of the open space, for example in city apartments, lofts or penthouses.’
SIGNATURE KITCHEN BY GRÉGOIRE DE LAFFOREST
With his signature creation for Obumex, Grégoire de Lafforest developed a radically contemporary take on both the function and the design of the kitchen that nowadays – more than ever before - has become a real living space. While the functional technical elements (devices, etc.) disappear out of sight in his design, de Lafforest indeed pays ample attention to the objects which, in a certain sense, collect themselves in a kitchen: decorative objects, (cooking) books, accessories, …
THE 'CUISINE SIGNATURE' BY BRUNO MOINARD
The French interior architect and Obumex reinterpret the kitchen and consider it as a full-fledged part of the decorative universe: elegance is added to the functional aspect, the traditional kitchen consists of several furniture items, the daily look is enriched with new materials.
Loyal to his inspiration, Bruno Moinard responds to the geometry of the lines, the interplay of light and the texturized materials.
Every element of this furniture has its own rhythm in which messing or copper and brushed wood alternate and in which the applied shadows and the natural light lines create different tones. An innovative concept, a bold and daring style, refined to the smallest details, … this kitchen furniture invites to experience daily life in a new way.
SIGNATURE KITCHEN BY GILLES ET BOISSIER
With their signature creation for Obumex Gilles & Boissier have composed a ravishing quartet of wood, marble, modernism and style. The combination of hand-selected materials forms a natural balance between robust determination and refined elegance. The timeless class of the most durable materials is wonderfully reflected thanks to the almost liquid graphic lines that characterize the harmonious visual compositions of Gilles & Boissier.
