Long history in furniture design
The story began in 1978 when Heerenhuis chose Antwerp to start a workshop for antique furniture. Shortly thereafter, founders Geert Legein and Louis van Haesebrouck decided to design their own collections. Their preference for antique wooden furniture and original materials was decisive and continues to have a major influence on their designs today. Lots of Heerenhuis furniture stands out because of materials that have a past. The company uses this apparent imperfection to make tables and other furniture, which often have an antique look but are nevertheless recently designed. Of course, Heerenhuis always ensures that the furniture is of high quality.
Heerenhuis’ characteristic materials
In addition to coffee tables and indoor and outdoor tables, the Heerenhuis studio also designs chairs and interior objects. Most of the designs are made entirely or largely of wood. Commonly used types of wood are oak, birch, Douglas fir or Oregon pine, poplar, walnut and ayous. Legein and Van Haesebrouck also regularly opt for reclaimed wood. This is usually from buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries. An advantage of this wood is that it is sustainable and very strong. Heerenhuis Antwerp provides the wood with a manual finish with oil, wax or varnish, for example. Other characteristic materials in the range are marble, leather, rubber and metal.
Heerenhuis Apollo and other masterpieces
The Heerenhuis tables include various extensive series. One of the largest collections is the Heerenhuis Apollo. This table is available in indoor versions with a tabletop made of oak, reclaimed wood and marble. With the Apollo table, you can also choose from different bases, including black and gold-coloured metal. There are also several Apollo outdoor models. Other attractive table series with indoor and outdoor versions are the Kombinat and the Mesa. In addition to dining tables and coffee tables in oak or with a leather finish, you will also find matching bedside tables and benches in these two collections. With the Heerenhuis Altar, you purchase an elongated indoor table made of oak or Oregon pine that has a thick panel on both ends as a base. The Heerenhuis Farmer has a more common design with four separate corner legs. This indoor table is made of oak and has a drawer.
